Google Meet Create: How to Make a Meeting Link on Any Device

Need a Google Meet link right now, or an invitation for next week? The quickest route depends on whether you want a standalone link, a live call, or a scheduled event with guests. This guide shows each route and the small setup checks that prevent joining problems.

Google Meet link ready to share
Quick answer

On a computer, open Google Meet, select New meeting or New, then choose Create a meeting for later. Copy and send the link. For a timed meeting, choose Schedule in Google Calendar so guests receive an event, time, and Meet link together. On iPhone or Android, open the Meet app, tap New, then Create link.

Which Google Meet create option should you choose?

Google offers several ways to create a Meet. They produce a joinable meeting, but they do different organizational jobs. Use the option that matches how you plan to invite people.

What you needBest routeWhat you send
A link to share now for a later callMeet → New meeting → Create a meeting for laterCopied Meet link
A call that starts immediatelyMeet → New meeting → Start an instant meetingInvite from the open call
A date, time, and guest listMeet → Schedule in Google Calendar, or create a Calendar eventCalendar invitation with Meet details

If you are arranging an interview, client call, or team review, Calendar is usually the clearer choice: the meeting link travels with the event, time zone, and guest list. A standalone link is handy for an informal conversation, but the sender still needs to tell everyone when to join.

  1. Sign in to your Google Account and open meet.google.com.
  2. Click New meeting. Some versions of the homepage label this button New.
  3. Select Create a meeting for later.
  4. Click Copy on the meeting details, then paste the link into your message or invitation.
  5. When it is time to meet, open the same link and select Join.

For a call happening now, choose Start an instant meeting instead. Meet opens the room immediately; copy the joining details from the call and send them to participants. Before the first call, your browser may ask for camera and microphone permission. You can test those controls before anyone else joins.

Desktop options for creating a meeting

The difference is simple: “for later” creates a reusable link without placing a time on your calendar; “instant” opens the room; “Schedule in Google Calendar” builds an event. Google changes interface labels occasionally, so look for the equivalent action if your account shows a slightly different button.

How to schedule a Google Meet with Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar and create a new event.
  2. Add a descriptive title, date, start and end time, and the correct time zone.
  3. Add guests and confirm that Google Meet video conferencing is attached. If it is not, select Add Google Meet video conferencing.
  4. Review the guest list and any host controls, then save the event. Choose Send when Calendar asks whether to notify guests.
  5. Open the saved event once to confirm the Meet link appears before you rely on the invitation.

If you begin in Meet, choose Schedule in Google Calendar; it takes you to the event editor. On a phone, the Meet app’s New → Schedule option likewise opens Calendar. The event is a better home for a formal meeting than a link pasted into a chat thread, especially when attendees need reminders or a clear agenda.

For separate audiences, create separate events and links. Google explains that reusing a Meet code from an older Calendar event can leave access and meeting records tied to that original event’s guest list. That matters for a candidate interview followed by an internal hiring discussion: the debrief should have its own event and code.

Your Meet link is ready. Prepare the notes too.

Connect selected Google Meet calls to HiNoter so the conversation can become a searchable transcript and structured notes.

Mobile meeting link sharing steps

For a future appointment, tap New → Schedule in the Meet app. Google Calendar opens so you can set a title, time, and guests. On both iPhone and Android, you can also create an event directly in the Calendar app. Check the event details before sending, particularly when participants are in different time zones.

Google’s current mobile Help pages use the label Create link. Older screenshots or articles may show Create a new meeting; follow the action that creates a shareable link in your version of the app.

Yes. On a computer, open Gmail, find Meet in the left sidebar, and click New meeting. Choose Send invite to copy the meeting invitation or share it by email. If the Meet section is hidden, Gmail settings can show it again. This route is useful for a quick conversation, but Calendar is more reliable when the invitation needs a scheduled time and guest list.

Before sharing any link, include a clear subject and time in the message. “Project review, Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. ET” is more useful than a bare URL. If you expect an agenda or files to be reviewed, add those to the Calendar event or message before the call.

Check meeting access before guests arrive

A valid link does not always mean everyone can enter without approval. Meeting access varies by account and host settings. Google’s host controls may offer Open, Trusted, or Restricted access, depending on the account. Outside guests and note-taking assistants may need to request entry. The host should be ready to admit them.

  • Check the organizer account. The account that creates the meeting may control who can admit guests and access meeting records.
  • Check the guest list. A forwarded link may reach someone who was not invited to the Calendar event.
  • Check the room early. Open the link a few minutes ahead to test audio, video, and access.
  • Check recording expectations. Tell participants if a meeting will be recorded or transcribed, and follow applicable rules and company policy.

For recurring calls, review the host settings when you create the series. If the conversation changes audience or sensitivity, make a new event and link instead of recycling an old one.

Turn the meeting into useful notes with HiNoter

Creating the link solves the invitation problem. The next challenge is remembering what was decided. HiNoter’s Google Meet integration can connect to your calendar, let you choose which meetings to cover, and request to join the scheduled call. The host may need to admit the assistant. After the meeting, HiNoter can provide a transcript, summary, action items, and a mind map.

For a weekly team sync, decide in advance which calls need a full record. At the end, review the generated AI meeting notes against what happened, confirm owners and deadlines, and share the concise outcome with the people who need it. A long transcript alone is less useful than a checked decision and an assigned next step.

HiNoter organizes meeting follow up

The meeting assistant is particularly helpful when several calls land on the same day. If you already have a recording, HiNoter’s audio-to-text workflow can turn it into searchable text. For a format to review before sending, see the guide to writing meeting minutes. You can also review action items from meetings when a discussion produces many follow-ups.

The New meeting option is missing

First, confirm you are signed in to a Google Account. Google says account sign-in is required to create a new Meet or add a Meet link to a Calendar event. In a work or school account, an administrator may have turned off meeting creation. If you can join meetings but cannot create one, ask your administrator to check the organization’s Meet settings.

A scheduled meeting does not appear in Meet

Check the Google account you used to create the Calendar event. Google notes that only meetings scheduled through Google Calendar show up in Meet’s scheduled list. A link created “for later” still works even if it is not listed as an upcoming event.

Someone cannot enter the room

Check the exact link, the signed-in account, the event guest list, and the host’s access settings. Ask the host to watch for a join request. If the meeting was created for a different audience, a fresh event and code may be the clearest fix.

Meet codes have different expiration rules according to where they were created. Google says codes created on the Meet homepage expire 365 days after their last use; Calendar codes follow separate conditions. For an important future meeting, confirm the link in its original event or create a new one rather than assuming every old code remains valid.

Frequently asked questions

You can create a meeting link with a Google Account. Available features and meeting limits depend on the account or Workspace plan, so check the current account details if you need specific limits.

Can someone join my Google Meet without a Google Account?

Google allows some guests to request entry without a Google Account. The organizer or another authorized participant may need to admit them. Organization settings can affect access.

A Meet link may remain usable until its code expires, but reusing a Calendar-created code can retain the original event’s access and records. Create a new event for a new audience or a sensitive follow-up.

The Meet link opens the video room. A Calendar invitation adds the date, time zone, guest list, reminders, and meeting details around that link. For planned calls, send the invitation.

Can HiNoter join a Google Meet I created?

Yes. HiNoter’s Google Meet integration can detect selected calendar meetings and request to join them. The host may need to admit the assistant, and participants should know when transcription is in use.

For a quick shareable link, use New meeting → Create a meeting for later. For a call with a fixed time and guest list, use Google Calendar. Check access before the first participant arrives, and decide how you will capture decisions afterward. If that follow-up needs a searchable record, start with HiNoter and review the notes before sharing them.
